INNOVATION: CHOOSE-YOUR-OWN-ADVENTURE PLAYOFFS

This proposed rule change would allow top-seeded playoff teams to choose their opponents instead of being locked into a fixed bracket based strictly on seed. Once the playoff field is set, the highest-seeded teams would select their preferred matchups from the available lower-seeded teams. In formats with byes, teams could first decide whether to accept a bye or play in the opening round.
Why Create This Rule
Traditional seeding does not always give the best regular-season teams the easiest or most favorable path. A lower-seeded team may be especially dangerous because of late-season momentum, a returning superstar, elite pitching, travel factors, or a matchup style that creates problems. This system lets teams decide for themselves what counts as the best path, whether that means avoiding a hot opponent, reducing travel, or choosing a team they believe they match up well against.
The idea could also make playoff selection more exciting for fans. A televised playoff draft would create instant storylines, because lower-seeded teams would know exactly who chose them. That could add motivation, rivalry, and drama to every matchup, especially if a chosen team pulls off an upset.
